ReviewsBorderline, London, 20 February 1998Ed and Denyze's first gig in London for almost two years (the last one being at the Mean Fiddler in Harlesden in 1996) attracted a large and varied crowd. Ed and Denyze were in fine form and kicked off the evening with Warning Sign from the new album 2020 Vision. They followed this with Angel (written in memory of John Lennon) and Dionysia. A surprise addition at this point was Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield. They followed up with two favourites from their first album, Winter Son and Forest Hill. They finished the first set with three tracks from the new album, a well-received performance of a cover version of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit, then Catch Me (dedicated to Stephane Grappelli) and finally a strong performance of the powerful title track 2020 Vision. After a short break, Ed and Denyze returned to the stage to perform a further set of songs from their two albums: The Stalking One, Wheel of Fortune, Child, 3rd Eye, Summerland, Fly Before Dawn, Vertigo, A Game She Plays, Somebody to Love (another Jefferson Airplane classic), and finally an encore of 2020 Vision. As usual, Ed and Denyze were only too happy to stop and chat to people afterwards, sign posters and CD covers, and generally chill out. CDs were also on sale at slightly discounted prices. If you didn't manage to get to this gig, please check my list (which will get updated regularly) and try to go to another - I know they'd appreciate it! |
